Curly hair can be very polite, willing to hide a multitude of questionable snips from a less than well executed haircut. Yet when subject to scissors possessing great skill and understanding, will quite happily radiate its natural beauty.
When cut well, curly hair falls into place easily and very nicely, doesn't bunch up or bush out, doesn't get thin, frizzy ends, and grows out very well without getting “interesting” in a month. One of the most common “problems” I see with new clients is that their hair has been cut in pyramid or “A” shape, causing flatter areas, often on the upper sides, while bunching up around the lower part of the hair, basically creating a pyramid. This is not wrong or bad but there is another option: more of a “C” shape. With a C shape the haircut is more rounded, it flows better without bunching up anywhere and falls into place without needing to be coerced. A C shape doesn't mean the hair will look like a ball or an Afro (although it can, if so desired), it's simply a certain way of cutting the curves and angles to avoid the pyramid. The vast majority of people I have switched to the C shape much prefer it, a few seem to prefer the triangular shape, once again demonstrating there's no right and wrong.
When curly hair is cut well, it’s very easy to look after, falls into place on it’s own and has much less tendency to frizz and get unruly.
